Always trust your gut

Sometime back, I was offered a pretty lucrative job that was almost in line with what I am doing now.

But there was something that wasn’t right about it. The money was great and I could’ve done it blindfolded. Still, there was something that just didn’t set right with what I wanted to do with my life. But the money…(you can see my dilemma).

Then I came across a video with Derek Sivers and he was talking about his ethos which is basically “F Yeah or No”.

So basically, to help you make decisions in life think of them this way, “F Yeah or No.”. Either way, you will be making the decision that will make you the most happy. Well, I used this and reluctantly wrote the client said, ”No.”

Understandably, after 3 meetings, the client was a bit unhappy with my decision and did not reply to my emails.

But, being the person that I am, in the same letter that notified him of my answer,  I recommended two other artists who I thought would be a good fit for the job.

I felt really bad for a week or so after, thinking that I had made a mistake or that I really should’ve thought about it further. But, after about a month or so, I had all but forgotten about it.

Fast forward to a few days ago. I caught up with one of those artists that I had recommended and he said that he had gotten the job and that it was EXACTLY what he wanted! That he had always wanted to do this ever since he was young and that it was his dream gig!

At the time, you may be thinking that you are making a huge mistake or that you are just being overly cautious. But let me tell you, I have had this happen to me many times and the gut is rarely wrong. In this case, the job wasn’t for me and I needed to get out of the way to help out someone else who would appreciate it so much more.

Most times your initial instincts are true and if you are pushing yourself in anywhere near the right direction, they will help you along. You just have to learn to dodge a few obstacles along the way and to listen to what they are saying.

So….Trust your gut. Believe that if you help others it will come back to you tenfold.

And….trust that the universe will help you win if you let it!
