From Flesh to Clay,
Take this one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience sculpture in its purest form… by sculpting a live art model.
This 3-hour introduction to life sculpture workshop is open to amateurs and professionals alike and will be an exploration of the human form through creating a pose or gesture in clay. During our time together, you will create your own figurative sculpture directly from a live art model.
Working with a live model is one of the most rewarding challenges available to artists today.
With all materials and tools provided, we will start the class with our professional life model as they settle into a comfortable pose.
From the beginning, you will be talked through each step of the process. From a basic block of clay your instructor, lifelong artist Will Huntley will walk you through each and every step teaching you to see bones, shadows, muscles, and variations in the human form, so that you may be able to shape and carve them into the clay.
As you progress from the blocking stage to cutting away negative space, you will be told and shown how to find reference points and how to “measure” them. You will also learn how the skeleton aligns itself to attain balance.
After a time, you should begin to see the angles of each extremity and how, from basic blocks, we can carve them into rounded, lithe muscle and bone to balance the form into a continuous, flowing and strong human form.
It is at this point that will begin to see the essence of the pose. Where you will really learn to “see” what is actually in front of you.. not just what you think is there
Upon completion of the class, you will have a sculpture, created with your own hand that, you can let dry into a very hard model or if kept damp, may be worked for weeks to come.
Alternatively, for a small fee, your artwork may be moulded with silicone and cast in a rigid, strong plastic.
